(2 décembre 2020 ~ 2 décembre 2025) Ma découverte de la musique cajun et zydeco a commencé lorsque j’étais DJ à la discothèque « t Kelderke » (La Cave), à la sortie du single de Clifton Chenier, « Tu Peux Cogner (Mais Tu Peux Pas Rentrer) », en 1976.
La face B, dont le titre anglais, que nous aurions pu mieux prononcer, signifiait « Keep on knocking but you can’t come in » (Frappe, mais tu ne peux pas entrer), nous a fait découvrir ce genre musical, sans que nous sachions qu’il s’agissait de zydeco. Plus tard, en 1991, un autre groupe, Captain Gumbo, a connu un succès modeste avec « Allons à Lafayette », puis, en 1995, le groupe néerlandais Allez Mama avec « Je liegt dat je barst » (Tu mens, tu es fou).
Cette année-là, Eric de Korte et moi avons été sollicités pour présenter le Festival International Cajun & Zydeco de Raamsdonksveer, un festival qui allait bientôt devenir le Zydeco Zity Festival.
Eric a dû se retirer en raison de problèmes vocaux, et peu après, on m’a également proposé de co-animer l’émission de radio Zydeco Zity avec Piet Ribbers.
Gary Hayman a été mon premier professeur de danse à m’initier aux pas assez complexes. Il est actif depuis près de cinq ans, animant les émissions « Mystery Song » et « Spotlight Artist ». Nous avons participé à d’autres festivals à Ameland, en France, au Saulieu Nuits Cajun, puis à Pontchartrain, en Allemagne, dans différents lieux, en Belgique au festival Hamawe, et en Angleterre à York et Bristol. Bref, j’étais conquis ; le virus du zydeco m’avait gagné.
Au printemps 2020, tout s’est arrêté net. Plus de festivals, et mon émission de radio Zydeco Zity a également pris fin brutalement. J’ai rapidement ressenti l’envie de me remettre au travail. Un tour à la station de radio régionale du Morvan, FDL.radio, un courriel, et hop ! Me revoilà aux affaires : choix du générique, création de jingles… C’était il y a exactement cinq ans cette semaine. Depuis le début de l’année, nous sommes de nouveau actifs sur Facebook et nous renforçons et développons nos liens internationaux.

5 Year Celebration of ZydeCajun Radio at FDL
(December 2, 2020 ~ December 2, 2025) Cajun and Zydeco music started for me as a DJ at the discotheque “t Kelderke” (the Cellar) when Clifton Chenier’s single “Tu Peux Cogner (Mais Tu Peux Pas Rentrer)” was released in 1976.
On the other side, the English title, which we could have pronounced better, was “Keep on knocking but you can’t come in.” That was our first introduction to the music, but we had no idea it was called zydeco. Later, in 1991, another band, Captain Gumbo, had a minor hit with “Allons à Lafayette,” and later, in 1995, the Dutch-language band Allez Mama with “Je liegt dat je barst” (You lie, you’re out of your mind).
That was the year we were asked, Eric de Korte and myself, to present the International Cajun & Zydeco Festival in Raamsdonksveer, a festival that would soon become known as the Zydeco Zity Festival.
Eric stepped down due to vocal problems, and shortly after, I was also asked to co-present the Zydeco Zity Radio program with Piet Ribbers.
Gary Hayman was the first dance teacher to introduce me to the rather difficult dance steps. He’s been active for almost five years now, performing the Mystery Song and Spotlight Artist programs. We visited other festivals on Ameland, France, at Saulieu Nuits Cajun and later Pontchartrain, Germany at various locations, Belgium at the Hamawe festival, and England at York and Bristol. In short, I was hooked; the zydecosis virus had landed.
In the spring of 2020, all of this came to a standstill. No festivals, and my ZydecoZity radio program also came to an abrupt end. I quickly felt the urge to get started. A visit to the regional radio station here in the Morvan, FDL.radio, an email, and bingo! I was back in business, picking the theme tune, creating jingles, and we were back in business—that was exactly five years ago this week. Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been active again on Facebook and are strengthening and expanding our international connections.

Met op de andere kant de Engelse titel die we beter konden uitspreken Keep on knocking but you can’t come in. Dat was de eerste kennismaking met de muziek, maar dat dit zydeco werd genoemd hadden we nog geen idee van. Later in 1991 scoorde een andere band Captain Gumbo een kleine hit met Allons à Lafayette en weer later in 1995 de Nederlandstalige band Allez Mama met “Je liegt dat je barst”.
Dat was gelijk het jaar dat we gevraagd werden Eric de Korte en ondergetekende om het Internationale Cajun & Zydeco Festival te presenteren in Raamsdonksveer, een festival dat al snel bekend zou worden onder de naam Zydeco Zity Festival.
Eric stopte vanwege stem problemen en kort daarna werd ik ook gevraagd om het Zydeco Zity Radio programma mede te presenteren met Piet Ribbers.
Gary Hayman was de eerste dansleraar die mij inwijdde in de best lastige dans passen. Nu al weer bijna vijf jaar actief met de Mystery Song en de Spotlight Artist items. We gingen andere festivals bezoeken op Ameland in Frankrijk in Saulieu Nuits Cajun en later Pontchartrain, in Duitsland op diverse locaties, Belgie het Hamawe festival , in Engeland in York en Bristol. Kortom, ik had de smaak te pakken het zydecosis virus was geland.
In de lente van 2020 kwam dit alles tot stilstand, geen festivals en ook mijn ZydecoZity radio programma kwam tot een abrupt einde. Als snel kwamen de kriebels om aan de slag te gaan. Een bezoekje aan de regionale zender hier in de Morvan FDL.radio, een email bericht en bingo, ik kon weer aan de slag, Begintune uitzoeken, jingles maken en we waren weer in business, dat was deze week dus precies 5 jaar geleden. Sinds begin dit jaar zijn we weer actief via Facebook en de internationale connecties aan het aanhalen en uitbouwen.
